I'm serious – anyone can write. But not everyone can write wisely. If no one is reading what you are writing, you might as well be standing on a street corner talking to yourself. Writing Wisely is more than just taking a pen to paper or tapping away on the keyboard. A good writer has a working knowledge of basic grammar, spelling, pronunciation, and vocabulary. Most writers are avid readers. You may be thinking that you could never be a writer because your grammar and spelling are terrible. That's simply not true. You can improve your grammar, your speech, your vocabulary and your writing. It takes dedication and hard work, but it is possible.
I don't know about you, but I learned about grammar in grade school and I really wasn't planning ahead – at least not for my writing career. I didn't really pay attention to sentence structure and I thought a dangling participle was something obscene. If I only knew the benefits I would reap if I paid attention in 4 th grade. It wasn't until I took the placement tests for college that I had to admit I was grammatically challenged. The idea of taking a non-credit English course did not appeal to me so I set out to learn everything I could about grammar before my placement test. My college advisor said I got the highest score on record for the English placement test – proving you're never too old to learn good grammar!
The Everyday Guide to Writing Wisely can help you avoid some of the common mistakes writers make as well as help you brush up on some grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary basics. Less is more with so many things in life, writing is no exception. Don't add a bunch of flowery words and keep your use of “that” to a minimum. If you follow just those two tips, you'll be Writing Wisely!
Here's what people are saying about this handy reference -
The Everyday Guide to Writing Wisely is a book that I will be able to refer to many times. I love the way that it allows me to ensure that I am placing commas correctly. For someone that is spelling challenged the most common misspelled words will become a blessing to me. The examples that are given to remove wordiness from my statements will be an asset to my marketing materials. Laurie did a great job and I would recommend this book to anyone that is grammatically challenged.

Finally there is a guide that literally spells it all out in a way that makes sense. It's the kind of book I will use over and over again.

When Laurie told me that she was writing a book on grammar I was thrilled! I've used Laurie to turn my words from okay to fantabulous for the past six months and know no one who can work magic on my ideas like she can. She truly is an expert in her field and I, as a writer, would be lost without her! As someone who constantly struggles with where a comma should and should not go, and where exactly a semi-colon comes in to play, it was wonderful to see the new release from Laurie Dart entitled, The Everyday Guide to Writing Wisely. I own several grammar books but never have I sat down to read them cover to cover and have used them only in the past as a reference. Not only was it easy to read Laurie's book, I know that I will reference it for years to come (or until they change the rules on us and she releases a new one!)

“I have read dozens of grammar related books through the years and none have kept my attention until The Everyday Guide to Writing Wisely. Laurie has made my life and business much simpler when it comes to writing. No longer am I afraid to pick up a pen, instead I have a guide that helps me with each grammar pitfall I face. The Everyday Guide to Writing Wisely is showing me how to go from being a good writer to a great writer. Her guide has given me the confidence to write from the heart. The fact is I feel like I should have paid a lot more for something so valuable!”
